Three charges of domestic violence and child abuse have been filed against Charlotte Hornets actress Miles Bridges after he was arrested for assaulting his girlfriend in front of their two children last month, the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office announced Wednesday night.
According to the indictment, the case "includes an allegation of causing grievous bodily harm to the victim of domestic violence."
Bridges is due to stand trial Wednesday in the Los Angeles County Supreme Court.
"Domestic violence creates physical, mental and emotional trauma that has a lasting impact on survivors," the prosecutor said.
"Children witnessing domestic violence are particularly vulnerable and the impact on them is immeasurable."
Bridges was arrested on June 29 by Los Angeles police and later released on $ 130,000 bail.
The Hornets and the NBA said they are aware of the allegations made against the player, with the league saying it is investigating the matter.
"These are very serious allegations that we will continue to pursue," Charlotte said.
"Since this is a legal matter, we will have no further response at this stage."
Michelle Johnson, the mother of Bridges' two young children, commented earlier this month on the incident on her Instagram account, writing: "I hate that it got this but I can not keep quiet anymore. I have allowed someone to demolish my house, abuse me in any way possible and do "Trauma to our children for life. I have nothing to prove to the world, but I will not let anyone who can do something so terrible, not regret and paint a picture of something I am not. I will not let the people around you continue to silence me and continue to lie to protect this person."
