Tölzer Löwen bring experienced center Max Brandl from Rosenheim

Bad Tölz – Thanks to a happy coincidence and quick action, the Tölzer Löwen can now fully concentrate on filling up the defensive: After they found out that Max Brandl was without a contract in Rosenheim, Ralph Bader contacted the 34-year-old center forward immediately.

A man who, according to the ice hockey database, has 679 second division games under his belt and played 82 DEL games.

"We were on the same wavelength right away, didn't have to negotiate for long and got down to business," says the managing director of the Tölzer Eissport-Gesellschaft.

The result: The native of Landshut, brother of Thomas Brandl, played for the lions last season, will wear the Tölzer jersey in the upcoming Oberliga season.

Overview, passport security and routine

Bader has eleven strikers under contract and what he thinks is a "good mix of young, wild and experienced players".

The search for offensive forces has therefore been completed for the time being.

"If something else comes up later, we can always take action," says Bader.

"But now our attention is fully on the defense." He already has a candidate in his sights for the two open contingent positions, foreigners are also to be sought.

"We already have a few promising names on the list."

Immediately ready to play for Tölz

On the other hand, with Brandl, things went quite quickly.

He immediately showed willingness and desire to play for the lions.

"He is an experienced center who can help us very well with his great experience," says the Löwen boss.

Brandl has a lot of overview on the ice, can play a good pass, is a good face-off player, can be used in over or under numbers.

"He brings his experience everywhere and can pass it on to the youngsters," says Bader.

"We're getting a strong character.

I am convinced that he is the right person for us.”

No meeting of the brothers

Brandl himself didn't have to think twice.

“Ralph Bader convinced me straight away.

Tölz is an exciting sporting challenge for me.” He probably asked his brother, the ex-Lion Thomas Brandl, about the Tölz location – and probably heard enough positive things.

However, the two will not meet: The younger brother (31), who played for the lions in the previous season, has now switched to EV Landshut to stay in the DEL 2.

52 points in 48 games

Max Brandl is now looking forward to his new role and has big plans for the upcoming season: "It really appeals to me to achieve something with the young team - and maybe also to surprise." The 34-year-old has already achieved a lot: In the DEL he played for Augsburg, Ingolstadt and Hamburg.

In the second division he played for his hometown club Landshut as well as for Ravensburg and Bad Nauheim before playing for the Starbulls Rosenheim in the Oberliga Süd last season.

Brandl was the third-best scorer there, scoring 52 points (14 goals/38 assists) in 48 games.
