Emmanuel Macron announced Thursday that he would hold
"a site meeting with state services"
on Monday to take stock of the organization of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, believing that France was
"at the right level
of preparation.
“We have a lot at stake
,” recalled the Head of State, interviewed on France 2 on the sidelines of the Tour de France stage in Hautacam (Hautes-Pyrénées).
Citing
"access to events, ticketing, preparation issues for our athletes, good conditions for all delegations, security, organization and completion of work"
, Mr. Macron indicated that he was going
“at the bottom, to make site meetings”
, two years from the event.
In this context,
“on Monday, I hold a site meeting with the State services: the ministers, because several of them are new and it is important to remobilise;
all state services, prefects, those responsible for security, technical teams
,” he said.
Doubts over France's ability to stage big events have emerged after a failed Champions League final at the Stade de France turned into chaos last May.
The executive has promised to rectify the situation, particularly in terms of security.
The Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin thus again asked Thursday the new prefect of police of Paris Laurent Nuñez to ensure the general mobilization of
“all the resources”
of the institution for the organization of the Olympic Games.
Mr. Macron also added that he would do
“another step with the elected officials”
at the start of the school year .
“Many are concerned: obviously the city of Paris, the metropolis, the Region. But it is territories of the whole of France which are concerned by the Olympic Games: Marseille, French Polynesia … ”
, he argued.
As for the preparation of France, "we are at the right level," he said.
"We know what to strengthen, we know the points where we must secure everything, lock everything
," he continued.
Before concluding: "It's now a time trial, and it's in teams".
