According to research by NDR and Süddeutsche Zeitung, many female soccer players continue to be regularly confronted with sexist and derogatory comments.
In the "Panorama" program, ARD reports on Thursday evening after the European Championship quarter-finals between Germany and Austria about experiences that current and former players had to make.
"She's really hot too, isn't she?"
For example, ex-national player Tabea Kemme recently experienced a conversation about a teammate in which the sentence was said: "She's really hot too, isn't she?
I'd like to iron that out too." Saskia Matheis, Bundesliga player at Werder Bremen, remembered one man's saying: "Women's football is like horse racing.
Only on donkeys.«
And national goalkeeper Almuth Schult was asked by a journalist: "How does it feel when you're one of the few in the team who loves a man and not a woman?" He meant that only lesbian women would play football.
Hand on bottom when taking photos with fans
The footballers report salacious comments from spectators and even coaches and staff, and sexist behavior, such as putting a hand on the buttocks when taking photos with fans.
Apparently, there are also sexist failures in Bundesliga clubs.
A player speaks anonymously about incidents she experienced with her coach at the time: "He kept making comments about a teammate's butt," she says.
He looked at another player and remarked on how sexy she was.
Teammates and supervisors confirm the coach's sexist sayings.
The club and coach have since parted ways.
The ARD magazine "Panorama" will show a detailed report on the subject on Thursday, July 21, at 11:15 p.m., after the German team's quarterfinal match at the European Football Championship in England. The contribution can also be seen in the ARD media library.
NDR Info will broadcast a radio feature on the subject on Sunday, July 24, at 1:33 p.m. and on Monday, July 25, at 8:33 p.m.
