I do not hope so."

Mohumed woke up in the morning, "I wasn't feeling well.

But then of course you stand at the starting line.

It's one of the biggest events in the world, and when you qualify, you want to run," said the middle-distance runner, who was born in Willich, "I hope now that I'm not sick and that it's something else." He remained visible in the lead-up weakened far beyond his personal best and was eliminated.

But I wasn't allowed to come here without a negative test, and I tested myself all the time beforehand and then just ignored it." Because: "If I start now and think I have Corona, then nothing works more.

Some of the German team got caught.«

The German Athletics Association (DLV) later announced that Mohumed had tested negative after the race.

When asked by SPIEGEL why the runner was not tested before the race despite symptoms, the DLV explained: "Mohamed Mohumed tested negative several times before his departure and was accompanied medically after his arrival in Eugene." competition no longer carried out a corona test, "however, no corona symptoms were found in a medical consultation".

The German team has had three corona cases so far

The association's corona protection concept significantly exceeds the requirements of the world association World Athletics and the measures carried out in other nations.

It provides for daily tests by the medical team and tests by direct contacts.

In addition, tests are carried out if corona symptoms appear.

The DLV had previously announced Christopher Linke’s corona case on Thursday.

The walker from Potsdam tested positive and cannot compete over 35 km on Saturday.

As the association then announced in the evening, team doctor Andrew Lichtenthal found a total of three positive corona cases in the German World Cup team, and in addition to Linke, staff from the coaching and medical team were affected.

“All those who tested positive were immediately isolated, all contact persons are tested regularly, as are all members of the medical team every day.

All three patients are doing well given the circumstances," the statement said.
