On the night of Thursday to Friday, the CAF Awards ceremony took place in Rabat, Morocco, rewarding the cream of African football.

For the second time in a row, it was the Senegalese Sadio Mané who won the Ballon d'Or, a reward offered to the person who is named best African player of the year by the votes of the jury.

As in 2019 (the 2020 and 2021 editions did not take place because of the Covid), the new Bayern Munich striker beat his former Egyptian team-mate at Liverpool Mohamed Salah.

Senegal surfed the whole awarding of prizes, designated as the best selection in Africa carried by a first title in the African Cup of Nations this year.

Coach Aliou Cissé is crowned best coach of the year, and the prize for the most beautiful goal goes to Pape Matar Sarr, also named best young African player at 19 years old.

Among the ladies, Asiat Oshoala is also repeating the experience of 2019 by once again winning the African Golden Ball.

The Nigerian has done the treble with Barca this season, winning the league, as well as the Spanish Cup and Supercopa.

Unlucky finalist in the Champions League against OL last May, Asiat Oshoala finished co-top scorer in La Liga with 20 goals last season.

Nigeria will play the match for 3rd place in the CAN tonight (eliminated on penalties against Morocco), and has also qualified for the 2023 World Cup in Oceania.
