Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser commented on the debate about the payment of women and men in football.
It is important to her that politicians and players "send a clear signal" that women's football "has the same importance as men's football," said the SPD politician on ZDF.
"That also has consequences for the question of what the one player earns, what the other players earn.
More equality is needed.« However, she did not present any concrete ideas when asked.
As Federal Minister of the Interior, Faeser is also responsible for sport.
It also remained unclear how better pay would be financed.
The turnover of the European football union Uefa through TV rights, sponsorship and tickets for a European championship for men is significantly higher.
This means that higher bonuses are paid out to the associations at men's tournaments.
Chancellor Olaf Scholz had recently called for equal pay for women and men in sport - especially in national teams.
DFB director Oliver Bierhoff then suggested a conversation with the SPD politician.
“I'd be happy to invite him over.
Then I'll explain the numbers to him a little better,” he said.
Scholz was ready for a conversation.
The German Football Association has promised the women a record EM bonus: At the title in England, 60,000 euros will go to the players who have reached the semi-finals so far.
The German players would have received 400,000 euros each for the title in 2021.
