Drama in Maccabiah took place today (Sunday), when an Australian athlete collapsed this morning during a football match in Netanya after suffering cardiac arrest.

The medical teams present at the event performed CPR on him and he was taken to "Laniado" hospital for further treatment.

At the time of the incident, MDA paramedics were on the scene and provided quick treatment with a defibrillator to the player who participated in the 55+ Masters tournament, until he regained consciousness, so that he could be taken to the ambulance and taken away.

Laniado Hospital said: "An athlete who played football for Maccabiah was brought to the Heart Institute at the hospital, after undergoing CPR in the field.

Upon arrival, he underwent a series of life-saving operations to stabilize his condition.

He is now hospitalized in the cardiac intensive care unit and his condition is stable."

Maccabiah stated: "During a soccer match held today in the Masters tournament for the over-55s, a player from the Australian national team felt ill after being substituted and going down to the players' bench. The player was treated immediately by MDA teams present at the scene, and was then taken in a stable condition and conscious to the Laniado Hospital in Netanya for further treatment treatment".
