On July 16, 1996, the Dane Bjarne Riis won at Hautacam and won the Tour de France a few days later.

Twenty-six years later, Jonas Vingegaard therefore imitated him by winning his duel from a distance against Tadej Pogacar at the top of the Pyrenean pass on Thursday.

After Riis, the Jumbo-Visma rider is therefore the second Danish rider to put his name on the Tour de France prize list.

In 2007, Michael Rasmussen was exfiltrated by his team (Rabobank) when he was wearing the yellow jersey and was on track to win as well.
