Italian runner Massimo Stano won the gold medal in the 35 km race walk at the 18th edition of the World Championships in Athletics in Eugene, USA.
Stano, the Tokyo Olympic champion in the 20 km race, walked the race with a time of two hours, 23 minutes and 14 seconds, and one second ahead of Japan's Masatora Kawano, who won the silver medal, while the bronze went to Swede Perseus Kallstrom.
This is Italy's second medal in the tournament, after Elena Valtortegara won the bronze medal in the high jump.
