A highly respectable performance by Israel's reserve team in the European Championship ended this evening (Sunday) on a slightly sad note, with a loss in the game for third place.

The host of the tournament, Montenegro, defeated Oren Aharoni's team 77:86 and won the bronze medal - the first in its history at the European Under-20 Championships. The

first half did not hint at what was to come, as Israel took a double-digit lead after less than 10 minutes, leading right up to The last buzzer before the break.

Amit Aharoni successfully navigated the offensive game with assists, and Gilad Levy demonstrated clear dominance in the paint area throughout the match, but in the second half, Montenegro took over the business and its shooting ability from outside the arc (12/40, 40%) helped it achieve a prestigious victory for them.

Israel thus finished its first championship outside the podium after three consecutive tournaments, after winning EuroBasket twice in a row and before that obtaining the silver medal in 2017.

And yet - Oren Aharoni and his players deserve compliments for a successful journey and inclusion among the four best reserve teams on the continent.

His tremendous performance was not enough for a medal.
