While on the night of Sunday to Monday, the French Kevin Mayer allowed the Blues to win the first and only medal at the Eugene Worlds in the United States, winning the title in decathlon, two old athletics records have been beaten.
Logically, the Swede Armand Duplantis won the pole vault, blackening a new line on his record by gleaning a first crown of outdoor world champion.
His prowess is above all elsewhere.
The Swede broke the pole vault world record for the third time this year.
With 6.21 m high, the prodigy exceeded his previous record dating from last March (6.20 m) by one centimeter.
The American Chris Nilsen (5.94m) and the Filipino Ernest John Obiena (5.94m) accompanied Duplantis on the podium.
Renaud Lavillenie, 35, takes a very respectable fifth place in a competition at an extremely dense level.
The 2012 Olympic champion passed 5.87m, his best performance of the season, on the second try, and came close to passing 5.94m on two of his tries.

Earlier in the night, another record was broken in the 100m hurdles.
The Nigerian Tobi Amusan exploded the counter during the semi-final of the discipline (12′12′'), ahead as a symbol of the previous record holder the American Kendra Harrison (12′20).
In the final, the African athlete repeated the feat (12′06) but with too favorable a wind.
Still, Tobi Amusan leaves with a gold medal around his neck, and a new record.

Amusan and Duplantis won the only gold medals for Sweden and Nigeria, which puts these two countries on a level with France.
