The feared heat battle did not materialize at the Schongau triathlon.

The athletes fought hot duels for victory.

Schongau - The feared heat battle did not materialize.

Almost 300 endurance athletes took part in the tenth "Schongau Triathlon" in the best conditions.

The athletes from the region got some good results.

In the regional league ranking, the men's team of the hosts ended up in fifth place.

"We were extremely lucky with the weather," said Wolfgang Ahrens, boss of the Tri-Team Schongau.

In contrast to last year, when thunderstorms and rain first caused the race to be postponed and then stopped, the endurance athletes were able to complete their competitions on Saturday in sunshine and pleasant temperatures of a good 20 degrees and on a dry track.

In view of the perfect circumstances, the organizer would have wished for a little more starters and more visitors.

"Corona was still noticeable among the participants, but we don't know why there aren't more people in the city either," said Ahrens, a little at a loss.

The spectators got to see top performances.

In the regional league competition, in which the Bavarian individual title was also at stake, a trio of men fought a heated duel for the title right to the end.

In the end, Stefan Betz (TG Schweinfurt) was ahead in 1:47:28 hours.

He had already won the sprint a few weeks ago.

Just behind them came Tim Frisch (La Cabrera Rothsee/ 1:47:39) and Lukas Stengel (Arriba Göppersdorf/1:47:45) in second and third place.

Lukas Krämer satisfied with sixth place

Local hero Lukas Krämer from the Tri-Team finished sixth in 1:51:46 hours.

"I'm quite happy with that," judged Krämer, who - known as a strong cyclist - would have wished for a somewhat better harmonizing chasing group in the second discipline.

The leading group, which also included his teammate Simon Langwieser, was able to increase their lead before the running lap.

"And when running, I always need two laps to get into it," said Kramer after the Olympic distance of 1,500 meters swimming, 37.5 kilometers cycling and 10 kilometers running.

On the running lap, tri-team athlete Langwieser was unable to maintain his good second position after the bike course.

He had to let some competitors pass him on the 2.5-kilometre lap through the old town of Schongau, which he had to run through four times.

In the end he was fourteenth in 1:54:14 hours.

The Schongauer men's team, which also included Lukas Now, Max Filip and Jakob Landes, finished fifth among the 14 regional league clubs.

As in the previous Schongau Triathlon, the extremely strong team from RSC Kempten won.

Remarkable result: the tri-team men (from left) Lucas Nun, Lukas Krämer, Simon Langwieser, Maximilian Filipp and Jakob Landes took fifth place as a team in the regional league ranking.

Nina Koller was in a class of her own among the women.

The former starter for the Tri-Team women's team secured the Bavarian championship title with a lead of more than five minutes.

"I fled to the front," said the athlete from TSV Bad Reichenhall, who crossed the finish line after 2:05:19 hours.

The other places on the podium went to Theresa Wild (La Cabrera Rothsee/2:10:23) and Kristina Seidel (Mali Crew/2:11:01).

By the way: everything from the region is also available in our regular Schongau newsletter.

And in our Weilheim-Penzberg newsletter.

Before the Olympic distance, Koller was already a swimmer in the sprint relay – and that too successfully.

With Andreas Saal and Norbert Löw, she also took first place there.

However, only three squadrons were deployed.

There was more activity in the individual race over the Olympic distance with 89 starters.

Veit Hönle ("racextract racing team") secured victory in a sovereign manner in 1:51:49 hours.

"I was able to follow my line," said Hönle after his start-finish victory.

After he had already climbed out of the 20.8 degree warm Lech with a large lead, his closest pursuer, Tim Rieder (PSV Tübingen), came much closer to him on the slightly different and, compared to earlier, shorter bike course.

Before the run, he was in the lead within a few seconds.

It's all about pedalling: The ascent on the Frauentor mountain demanded a lot from the athletes.

"The atmosphere was great," judged the winner, who was at the start in Schongau for the first time.

Rieder (Post SV Tübingen) was second in 1:54.52 ahead of Nikolaus Heinloth (Post SV Weilheim), who delivered a strong performance in third in 1:58.13 hours.

"The swim didn't go so well, but the running on the very selective course was fine," beamed Heinloth.

In the women's category, serial winner Sigrid Mutscheller (SG Niederwangen/2:04:56) was once again in the lead.

Anna Bader (Tri-Team Schongau/2:23.01) was fifth.

Dennis Melloh (Cologne Triathlon Team) won the men's sprint over 500 meters swimming, 20 kilometers cycling and 5 kilometers running in 1:08.29 hours.

Dominic Wimmer (Post SV Weilheim/1:13:38) was seventh.

Kimberly Giesenberg (Tri-Sport Lübeck) won the women's sprint in 1:23.37 hours.
