Lewandowski praises Barcelona coach Xavi: 'Would like to highlight humility'

When Robert Lewandowski made his debut in the FC Barcelona jersey, the world footballer knew how to please.

And Barca won the Clasico against Antonio Rudiger's Real Madrid. 

Las Vegas - World footballer Robert Lewandowski celebrated a successful debut at FC Barcelona.

With the former Bayern pro in the starting XI, the Catalans defeated arch-rivals Real Madrid 1-0 on Saturday evening local time in Paradise near Las Vegas, Nevada.

The 33-year-old Pole did not score and was replaced after the break by ex-BVB professional Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Lewandowski was lavishly praised by his new coach Xavi Hernández after the duel.

"I saw a very good performance from him," said the Barça coach of his new protégé.

"He's a global star.

Robert has been scoring goals all his life and he will continue to do so.

I would like to highlight the humility with which he joined the team.

All the newcomers bring in quality and make us all a little bit better.

Me too as a coach.”

And further: Lewandowski "adapted very quickly" to the team.

He was "very happy" with the signing of Lewandowski and the Brazilian Raphinha, who scored the winning goal in the 27th minute.

Before the 1-0, Real defender Eder Militao made a hair-raising bad pass.

Even before the winning goal, Lewandowski forced Real goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois to make a brilliant save.

Xavi was happy about the victory against the Spanish record champions and emphasized: "There are no friendlies for me."

For Real Madrid, with German national defender Antonio Rüdiger as reinforcements, it was the first test match of the US trip.

The Champions League winner, who competed with the most top performers, also used Toni Kroos and former Bayern professional David Alaba.

Barça meanwhile played the second test match in the USA with national goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen.

In the first game, the Blaugrana defeated Inter Miami 6-0.
