Paris Games in 2024: only 54% of French people plan to follow the event

Two years before the opening of the Paris Olympic Games (July 26 - August 11, 2024), 54% of French people plan to "follow the event in the media", according to an OpinionWay poll published Tuesday by the daily Le Parisien.


When asked about the feeling inspired by the Paris Games, 47% of respondents are

"indifferent"

, only 26% say they are

"interested"

, while 19% are

"worried"

and 7%

"impatient

".

1% don't know.

The survey is published the day after a

“site meeting”

on the subject of the Games convened by Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée, to take stock of all the major issues of the event.

According to this survey, the French are also only 54% to plan to

"follow the event in the media"

and 12% to want to

"buy tickets to attend the events"

, but 9% want to attend the Opening Ceremony on site, 8% the Closing Ceremony, and 6% are ready to take part in the Games as a volunteer or by applying for a job.

For the rest, 65% of those polled are

"favorable"

to the opening ceremony on the Seine, and on the crucial question of security they are 72% to think that it will be well ensured in the other cities, but only 66 % For Paris.

Finally, for 75% of those questioned, the budget for the Paris 2024 Olympics will be exceeded, and for 53% France's medal total will be equivalent to those of the previous Games, compared to 26% of optimists (more medals) and 19% pessimistic (fewer medals).

The survey was carried out on a sample of 1,019 people representative of the French population aged 18 and over, questioned by self-administered questionnaire on July 20 and 21, according to the quota method.
