In preparation for the 2022/23 season, the Auburn College basketball team will arrive in Israel next week, and will play three games: on August 2 against the reserve team, on August 7 against the Israeli "All-Star" team, and on August 8 against Israel's senior team.
For coach Bruce Pearl, it will be another opportunity to visit the country he is so connected to.
The veteran coach who previously participated in Maccabiah has already given his players several tips for the visit - and one of them is quite amusing.
"I hope my players will be smart enough not to fart in the Dead Sea," said the 62-year-old coach.
"That they don't splash water and that they don't fart, because it might hurt. I didn't believe it until I tried it myself. You don't want salt to get into your eyes, it burns, and the same thing might happen on the other side... it's better that you don't know that."
Auburn players are expected to tour the country.
Besides the Dead Sea, they will also visit Yad Vashem, Jerusalem and the separation fence.
"It's going to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience," said Pearl, who led Auburn to the 2019 College Final Four.
"It will affect these players as fathers, as mature people, we are going to see things we will not forget on this trip."
