The world of basketball said goodbye to the legend of the past and one of the best players in history, Bill Russell, who passed away this evening (Sunday) at the age of 88.
NBA commissioner Adam Silver wrote: "Bill Russell is the greatest champion in sports history. He fought for values far greater than sports: equality, respect and inclusion. He fought for civil rights and social justice, a legacy he passed on to generations of NBA players who came after him. Russell Earned endless accolades during his storied career with the Boston Celtics, including a record 11 championships and 5 MVPs. These numbers are just the beginning of Bill's impact on the league and society as a whole."

Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown tweeted: "Rest in peace. Thank you for paving the way and inspiring so many people. This is a sad day but also a great day to celebrate his legacy and all that he stood for."
