Munich – FC Bayern fans can once again look forward to a city duel on Sunday.

After being relegated from the 3rd division a year ago, the U23 only had the S-Bahn derby against SpVgg Unterhaching last season.

Due to the bankruptcy in spring, Türkgücü Munich has landed back in the regional league and is challenging a favorite for the championship on Sunday afternoon.

Both teams got off to a good start in the new season.

The FCB reserve clearly won 4-0 at VfB Eichstätt on matchday 1, Türkgücü narrowly won 2-1 in Heimstetten.

Last weekend both clubs stumbled against SpVgg Ansbach and Wacker Burghausen.

Against the promoted team, Martin Demichelis had to do without Lucas Copado, David Herold and Jakob Mayer, who Julian Nagelsmann had taken with him on the pros' trip to the USA.

The Argentine ex-professional and his counterpart Alper Kayabunar are in the middle of an upheaval.

The team from Heinrich-Wieland-Strasse was completely replaced, and there was also a cut in the FC Bayern youth team.

In addition to the departures of the two veterans Nicolas Feldhahn (end of career) and Maxi Welzmüller (to Unterhaching), some up-and-coming talents such as Jamie Lawrence (to Magdeburg) and Malik Tillman (Glasgow Rangers) were loaned out.

Nevertheless, the U23s from Säbener Straße have the goal of returning to the 3rd division at the second attempt.

More blunders like last weekend against Ansbach could get Demichelis and his players into trouble early on.

Haching, Nuremberg, Vilzing and Aschaffenburg got full points after the first two games.

A threesome against the city rivals is therefore almost mandatory.

"I'm convinced of a successful derby because we've had a good week of training and I trust my players," the former central defender is quoted as saying on the Reds' website.
