Sad history repeats itself at Wembley Stadium.

Germany loses the final of the women's European Championship against England, which, like the 1966 World Cup, is overshadowed by a scandal.

London – Germany lost the final of the European Women's Championship.

England rise 2-1 after extra time in Europe's crown.

But the drama about the DFB women shouldn't have happened in the first place.

56 years after the legendary Wembley goal at the 1966 World Cup, Germany is disadvantaged again in the same place.

The national coach rages after seeing the pictures.

Women's EM: Wembley scandal in the final - DFB coach stunned because of handball

"Handball.

You have to see that.

You don't understand that at all," Martina Voss-Tecklenburg rumbles in the ARD interview.

Germany is denied a penalty.

But what happened?

The 25th minute is running when the score is 0:0.

After a corner, the ball rolls through the English six-yard box.

Three English women threw themselves at Marina Hegering, who was ready to shoot, and thus prevented a goal.

But captain Leah Williamson clearly plays the ball with her hands.

The scene is checked by VAR, but referee Kateryna Monzul does not look at the situation herself.

Women's EM: handball scandal in the final - memories of Wembley goal

"For me it's a crystal clear handball.

The hand is above shoulder height, for me it is incomprehensible that there was no indication from the VAR referee," explains former Bundesliga referee and rule expert Thorsten Kinhöfer to

The scandal brings back memories of the Wembley goal.

In the 1966 men's World Cup final, the linesman awarded England a goal in extra time, even though the ball was not over the line.

At that time there was no video referee, in contrast to today.

Voss-Tecklenburg proved to be a fair loser despite the obvious wrong decision.

"It doesn't help to cart behind it.

That's stupid, the people who are responsible have to think about it.

But I don't want to harp on about a situation," says the national coach.

Their players let their emotions run free after the final whistle.

"It hurts like hell," said DFB captain Svenja Huth.
