Britain's Queen Elizabeth II congratulated the English footballers on their first win at a European Championship.
The 2-1 win after extra time in the final against Germany at London's Wembley Stadium was "an inspiration for girls and women," said the 96-year-old monarch on Sunday evening.
Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who watched the final of the women's European Football Championship live in the stadium, also congratulated the English team.
"Congratulations to the Lionesses on the European Championship and to the DFB women for the world-class performance in a close game," wrote Scholz on Twitter.
"It was a thrilling tournament and the whole of Germany is proud of this team."
Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock also praised the DFB women on Twitter: "You have made us all very proud in this EM." She added: "Your disappointment may be immeasurable at first, but you are supported by millions of new fans who won with your dedication and team spirit.«
