The members of the team reached unprecedented achievements in Israeli archery, including breaking an Israeli record for the first time in 22 years and for the first time ever a medal for Israel in a round in a team competition.

The national anthem was played twice this week at the European Youth Archery Cup competition that ended in Bucharest.

The competition was held in 2 types of bows: compound (complex) and recurve (Olympic) and in two age ranges: under 21 and under 18.

This week the team members reached unprecedented achievements in Israeli archery, including breaking an Israeli record for the first time in 22 years and for the first time ever a medal for Israel in a round in a team competition.

In the final stages, the team of archers rose to the highest level and returned with the following achievements:

Shamai Yamarom, who holds the Israeli record for seniors despite his young age of only 17, wins a dramatic battle for the gold over his Italian opponent in a shoot-off when both shoot 9 on the target but Shamai's arrow was closer to the center by a millimeter and the anthem of hope was played for the first time in Bucharest.

Team bronze medal: Shelly Hilton and Roi Dror won a mixed team bronze medal (under 18) in a battle against the English that ended in a 4:4 tie and the battle went into a shoot-off (each archer shoots a single arrow).

The young Israelis left no chance for the English when their 2 arrows hit the 10 perfectly.

Gold in the team compound: Shamai Yamarom, Yeftah Hadar and Carmi Paz competed in the compound arch (under 18) and won the battle against the British, the anthem was played again in the European Cup.

Team bronze in recurve: an impressive performance by the under-21 youth group - Eyal Rosiner, Shahar Kleiner and Niv Frankel with recurve bows beat the Swiss in a shoot-off in the battle for the team bronze after the fight ended in a draw.

They also shot an almost perfect 10, 10, 9.

In personal achievements, Shahar Kleiner broke the Israeli record for the recurve bow with 663 points (out of 720) - this is a record set in 2000 by Yaron Tal (the late Kolesnik).

At the same time, Shelly Hilton set a new Israeli record for the cadet recurve bow with 631 points (out of 720).

Guy Matzkin, CEO of the union, said: "In 2019, 7 teenagers went to the European Cup and returned with a historic achievement - first medal in youth competitions, bronze in cadets for Shahar Kleiner.

Now, three years later, 14 talented, hungry and hard-working archers flew and returned with a historic achievement - 4 medals!

This is the product of years of work with minimum conditions, but with the total commitment of the coaches, the associations, the young people, a professional roadmap that also issues successes in the Olympics, the European Championship and now in this competition as well."
