Sadio Mané is FC Bayern's king transfer this summer.
Or not?
Michael Rummenigge sees it differently - and makes a clear judgment.
Munich - "He played an incredibly good game today.
Absolute world class.” Julian Nagelsmann couldn't stop raving on Saturday evening.
Sadio Mané, FC Bayern Munich's king transfer, had just played a really good game in the 5-3 win in the DFL Supercup against RB Leipzig - and even scored a goal.
One can rave about that, right?
In Munich, oh actually in the whole Bundesliga, everyone agrees that there is a real cracker in the Bayern squad.
Leipzig's Willi Orban spoke of the "rocket" Mané, even before the Supercup.
A little later, the "rocket" passed him.
Michael Rummenigge, ex-soccer player (including Bayern and BVB) and brother of ex-FCB boss Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, has a completely different opinion.
He even doubts Mané's world class.
"Sadio Mané is not a world-class player": Rummenigge makes judgment on Bayern transfer
"With all due respect for Sadio Mané and Matthijs de Ligt - both are not world-class players for me," writes Rummenigge about the two Bayern transfers in his
Sportbuzzer
column.
Mané will certainly score his goals in the Bundesliga, "but at the age of 30 I don't see him at the absolute top level".
Because Rummenigge is certain: "If it were different, Jürgen Klopp would have fought more to keep the striker at Liverpool."
After Mané's departure, Klopp himself said in an interview with the
Leipziger Volkszeitung
that the move to Bayern could have been put a stop to.
But Mané "definitely wanted to do something new".
And: "We have complied with this request." It's also about gratitude, Klopp emphasized at the time.
Does Mané transfer make sense for Bayern?
Expert expresses concerns
Rummenigge is not alone in his criticism of the new Senegalese FCB signing.
DAZN expert and ex-Bayern striker Sandro Wagner also doubts the Mané transfer.
At a DAZN appointment in Munich, he asked how much “sense” the transfer made.
Mané, for example, is "a big name, a great player for the Bundesliga," Wagner explained, "but Bayern didn't really have a great need for the dribbling positions."
However, he also admitted: "If you want to change the system because you no longer have a striker, it makes sense again." (nc)
