The World Championships in Athletics under the age of 20 started tonight (between Monday and Tuesday) in Santiago de Cali in Colombia, when Atka Damasya was the first Israeli to enter the competition circuit.
He finished 15th in the dramatic 5000 meter run.
The 19-year-old Damasya, who shaved 15.16 seconds off his record last year and placed it at 14:08.76 minutes, entered the championship with the 18th best time.
At the beginning of the run he managed to stick to the leading group, but as much as it increased the pace, he could not keep up with the fast pace.
In the end, Desmia, who joined the alley runners only four years ago, crossed the finish line after 14:40.68 minutes, and was ranked 15th.
Desmia lived up to expectations, as did the gold medalist, Ethiopian Addiso Yohani, who won thanks to an amazing finish, in which five runners battled for the premiership.
Yohani's time was 14:03.05 minutes.
