The police investigation department announced today (Tuesday) to the Hapoel Tel Aviv fan, Roi Politi, that they have closed the case in his case, after he filed a complaint for alleged police violence after the Reds' game against Hapoel Beer Sheva last May.
Now he intends to file an appeal on the matter with the state attorney's office.
The letter on behalf of the Attorney General's Office states that: "After examining your complaint and after considering all the reasons necessary for the matter, Attorney Michal Freysman, Senior Deputy A in our department, decided that the circumstances of the matter as a whole do not justify a further criminal investigation, since this is an incident for which the criminal procedure does not constitute a framework suitable for clarification".
It is further written: "We emphasize that this conclusion was reached after a preliminary examination of the incident that is the subject of your complaint, the results of which shed light on the incident as a whole. At the same time, since the complaint raises matters that can and are within the jurisdiction of the disciplinary department of the Israel Police, the complaint will be forwarded to them for examination." .
Attorney Moshe Palmor, who represents Politi, responded to the decision: "My office received a letter regarding the closing of the case in Roi Politi's case regarding the conduct of the police in the soccer match between the Hapoel Tel Aviv and B.S. teams that took place last May, and we intend to file an appeal about this with the state attorney's office. It is not possible that after watching the clear videos in which my client was seen being beaten by police officers, the Prosecutor's Office ordered the case to be closed on the grounds that the circumstances of the matter do not justify continuing a criminal investigation and when no police officer will stand trial."
