The Freisinger Julia Paszkiewicz experienced an emotional roller coaster ride in Ju-Jutsu at the World Games in the USA.
Freising
– When it comes to gold, silver and bronze in sport, there are often only small things that separate joy and sorrow.
After fourth place in international competitions, the disappointment of the athletes is the greatest, because the long-awaited medal was within reach.
Freisinger Julia Paszkiewicz had this painful experience in Ju-Jutsu at the World Games.
On July 10th she traveled together with her partner in the mixed duo, Johannes Tourbeslis, for the World Games in the USA (we reported) in order to complete the collection of titles after winning gold at the World and European Championships.
In the semifinals of the mixed duo competition, however, the duo had to admit defeat to their competitors from Thailand.
It was all or nothing for Paszkiewicz and Tourbeslis in the fight for third place for the bronze medal.
They had to compete again against the duo from Switzerland, which the two Germans had just 0.5 points inferior in the preliminary round.
After a gripping back and forth, the world champion pair lost out again – again by that darn 0.5 points.

Paszkiewicz gets the silver medal with the German team after the disappointment in the mixed duo
Paszkiewicz's disappointment could still be felt a few days after the World Games: “You train for this competition for half a year or it feels like your whole life.
Then of course it's very annoying when it doesn't work out that day.” Nevertheless, the duo did well, only the little bit of luck was missing.
The woman from Freising would have been all the happier "if our hard work and all our commitment over the last few years" had been rewarded with a medal at the World Games after the double at the World and European Championships.
The two had to shake off the disappointment of fourth place quickly, because they later represented Germany in the mixed team competition.
That's where the longed-for precious metal should come from.
After the German team defeated the team from Denmark in the semifinals, the opponent in the fight for the gold medal was France.
Although Paszkiewicz and Co. ultimately had to admit defeat in the final, the silver medal was a small consolation for the unfortunate fourth place in their supreme discipline: "We can be satisfied with the performance of the team."
Paszkiewicz is currently relaxing on vacation in Italy before she starts preparing for the Dan exam for her second black belt at the end of August.
At the beginning of September, the duo will begin their competition training for the World Championships in October.
