Although he started to celebrate, already after half the distance, the 19-year-old sprinter set a time of 9.91 seconds, an improvement of 3 hundredths on his previous record: "I came to enjoy the race. If anyone took it as disrespect, I'm really sorry"

Has Usain Bolt's successor been found?

The World Under-20 Athletics Championship, tonight (between Tuesday and Wednesday) in Santiago de Cali in Colombia, provided a new under-20 world record in the prestigious 100-meter run, which was broken by the Botswanan Letsil Tabogo.

Tabogo broke through the starting line first and led throughout the run, when 40 meters before the finish line, he even looked to the sides with some kind of disdain towards the other runners next to him, and it even looked like he wasn't really making an effort to cross the finish line.

In doing so, the 19-year-old sprinter set a time of 9.91 seconds, an improvement of 3 hundredths on the previous record he set just two weeks ago at the World Championships in Oregon, at a pace that even Bolt himself had never run at those ages.

Something that raised the big question - are we seeing the heir?

"I came to enjoy the race," he said at the end.

"If anyone took it as disrespect, I'm really sorry. I wanted the fans and everyone watching at home to be able to enjoy the run - to remind them a bit of what Usain Bolt did back in the day. He's my idol - the person I look up to."

Tabogo has never met the Jamaican, but the world record holder is certainly aware of the young Botswanan, having tweeted about the run that was had.

"I shall have great pleasure to meet him," said Tabogo,

"I saw that they were afraid of me, but I was also afraid of them," he said, "When the gun went off I had to make sure that I made the best jump of my life and it was the best start of my life. I didn't plan to celebrate like that, but as soon as I took my first step I knew that my degree . I wasn't worried about the time."

Latsil Tabogo.

When asked what result he could have given, he would not have gone out in early celebrations.

Tabogo said: "9.80", which raised the question: why didn't it happen?

"We have more runs to come, we didn't want to go that far," he concluded.
