The soccer associations of Uruguay, Argentina, Chile and Paraguay and political leaders from those countries launched their joint bid to host the 2030 World Cup on Tuesday.
Uruguayan President Luis Lacalle Po hosted the leaders who sought to bring another World Cup final to the Estadio Centenario in Montevideo, where the final was played in the first edition of the tournament in 1930.
Alejandro Dominguez, the president of South America's governing body - CONMEBOL, said at a press conference that the proposal is the continent's dream.
"A tournament commemorating one hundred years since the first World Cup will probably only be launched once, and it must come home," said Dominguez.
"We believe this is reason enough for FIFA to accept the fact that this becomes the best offer."
The expected competition of the South American countries comes from the direction of Spain and Portugal, who also have a joint bid for the 2030 World Cup. FIFA officials estimate that the selection will be made within two years. Remember, Qatar will host this year's tournament starting at the end of November, and the tournament in 2026 will be held in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
