FCB star is called "Matschello Zäbeitzer": Kimmich explains strange nicknames, Gnabry's father played a role

Joshua Kimmich seems to enjoy giving funny nicknames to teammates.

Joshua Kimmich chats in the Bayern podcast from the sewing box.
He reveals a curious nickname that is circulating in the team.
Munich - Jamal Musiala is called "Bambi", Kingsley Coman is called "King", Thomas Müller was given the nickname "Radio Pähl" for his particularly pronounced need to communicate.
Whether district class or Bundesliga - team sports are particularly predestined for the assignment of nicknames.
It's no different at big FC Bayern.
In the record champions' club podcast, Joshua Kimmich threw another, somewhat idiosyncratic name into the ring: "Matschello Zäbeitzer".
Who is that?
The Swabian explains: It is the Austrian Marcel Sabitzer.
"Marcel has already had a lot of nicknames from us," reveals Kimmich with a smile.

But how come?

met him in the VIP lounge and called him 'Matschello'," explains the midfield star.
According to Kimmich, the surname "Zäbeitzer" is due to some American fans on the US tour who had a little trouble pronouncing the name Sabitzer.

Sabitzer doesn't seem particularly enthusiastic about his new nickname.
"I don't think he can hear it anymore," laughs Kimmich.
"He has now accepted it." Other name creations for the ex-Leipziger are "Burgi" and "Sabe", as Kimmich explains.

The anecdote suggests that Sabitzer has now integrated quite well at Bayern.
The 28-year-old came from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2021 and was not able to convince in his first season in Munich, which is why he was now considered a candidate for sale.
But he didn't want to give up that quickly - and threw everything in during the pre-season.
With success: Julian Nagelsmann described him as the "winner of the preparation", according to Kimmich he is "always one of the best in training".
In the Supercup against RB Leipzig he played from the start and showed a good performance.
He should be one of the reasons why Bayern are probably staying away from Leipzig professional Konrad Laimer.
