Sovereign to the Bayern title: Wolfgang Roth runs away from everyone

At the Bavarian senior championship, Wolfgang Roth was in a class of his own: the Peißenberger won over 5000 meters by a large margin - and that in great heat.

Munich – He himself had expected a close fight for the title, but things turned out differently.

Patrick Stork (born 1970) won the pole vault competition in the M50 class with aplomb.

At the end of the Bavarian championship, the TSV Peiting athlete had a jump of 3.10 meters and really deserved the gold medal.

The graduate engineer also tried his hand at 3.20 meters.

This height would have been a personal best for him after his comeback as a pole vaulter in the Masters and "of course he would have liked to take it with him," says Stork.

But the rod and fitness level were "unfortunately unsuitable for this" on the day of the competition.

After three failed attempts it was over.

Absolutely no problem for Stork.

Looking at his performance and the championship title, "I'm very happy about the good result," he said.

Patrick Stork shines in the Dante Stadium with 3.10 meters

In addition to Stork, two other athletes had registered for the pole vault of the M50 class in the Dante Stadium.

A small field of participants in the over 50 pole vault is "not uncommon", explains Stork - and adds with a wink: "It's almost as popular as 400 meter hurdles." Based on the reported heights and some of them already jumped this year, all the starters were close together .

But the situation soon became clear.

Axel Kindermann (LG Stadtwerke München) failed with a "salto nullo" at 2.60 meters.

Stork grabbed the 2.70 meters in the first attempt.

With that, the qualifying for the Senior German Championships – according to the Peitinger “the minimum goal” – was dry.

Andreas Sternecker (LAG Mittlerer Isar) had first overcome the 2.60 and then the 2.70 meters in the first attempt.

Stork then skipped the attempts over 2.80 and 2.90 meters "to keep his strength down".

After Peitinger had managed the 3.0 meters and Sternecker had failed three times, Stork was the champion.

The 3.10 meters "were still freestyle".

With this height, Stork pushed himself into the top eleven M50 pole vaulters of the season in Germany.

To date, Tilmann Colberg (3.80) from Möllner SV has achieved the top value.

And in our Weilheim-Penzberg newsletter.

Patrick Stork, who is also a successful pentathlete, had to take a break during the winter due to a shoulder operation.

Since there were only limited opportunities for training and competitions due to Corona, "I missed little".

From May, the TSV athlete was able to resume training.

He completed his pole vault units with a friendly training group from Fürstenfeldbruck in Emmering.

After the gold medal, "I now owe them at least one cold drink," says Stork.

The facility in Peiting has not been set up due to a site renovation.

Wolfgang Roth (b. 1952) also traveled home from the Dante Stadium with a Bavarian championship title in his pocket.

The runner from Peißenberg delivered a fine performance over the 5000 meters and won the M70 class by a large margin.

Wolfgang Roth wins with a clear lead

He completed the twelve and a half laps of the stadium in 24:52.05 minutes.

In view of the high temperatures of around 28 degrees Celsius in the afternoon, the start time (5.45 p.m.) was rather unfavorable for a middle-distance run.

But Roth didn't want to complain, he only spoke of "warm conditions".

The athlete from TSV Peißenberg had the competition with two runners from LG Aschaffenburg clearly under control.

The gap to second, Walther Roth, was almost three minutes.

Schongauer season is unlucky in the third change

The sprint relay of TSV Schongau in the W40 class with Eva Kaemmerer, Anja Buccarella, Tanja Huber and Nadine Keller had bad luck.

A change error meant disqualification over the 4 x 100 meters.

The allowed zone was overrun by one meter at the third change.

So the way was clear for the TSV Friedberg relay team, which won with 55.03 seconds.

Annoying for the women from Schongau, who were actually the favourites: With a time of 54.57 seconds (run on June 1st in Gröbenzell), the quartet is in first place in the best list of the German Athletics Association among twelve registered teams.

The TSV season now wants to fight for the title at the senior championships in Erding in September.

In 2019, the Schongauer Staffel won bronze at the German senior championship.
