Monaco started its championship in the best possible way by winning against Strasbourg, this Saturday at La Meinau.

After its draw against PSV Eindhoven in the third round of the Champions League (1-1), Monaco won against Strasbourg for the resumption of Ligue 1 (1-2) this Saturday.

With a reshuffled team (Golovin and Volland suspended, Ben Yedder on the bench), the Monegasques took time to enter their match before winning thanks to their ghosts, Diatta and Diop.

With this victory, the Rock club has been full of confidence, before receiving PSV Eindhoven next Tuesday to try to access the Champions League play-offs.

Krépin Diatta, winning comeback

In a pleasant meeting and with many opportunities, the men of Philippe Clément could have been surprised by Strasbourg, without complexes and offensive.

But they were able to count on a very great Alexandre Nübel, pushed several times on the parade (5th, 20th, 21st, 38th, 45th, 90+4, 90+5).

Finally, AS Monaco was able to count on its ghost, Krépin Diatta.

Away from the field since the end of November due to a cruciate ligament rupture, the Senegalese, back in the starting XI after playing a few minutes against PSV, opened the scoring with a sublime volley from the right (0- 1, 43rd).

“I feel proud because I really struggled.

I deserve this, ”he explained to Prime Video at the break, looking delighted.

You deserve it, Krepin ❤️🤍

The former player of Bruges could even afford a double as soon as he returned from the locker room but his shot was deflected by Mats Sels (48th).

A few minutes later, Sofiane Diop, who experienced a real crossing of the desert last season with Monaco, worsened the score by taking over a ball diverted by the Strasbourg goalkeeper (0-2, 53rd).

However, Julien Stéphan's men never gave up.

They first reduced the score thanks to a header from Diallo on a cross from Thomas Delaine (1-2, 65th).

And the Strasbourg striker made the Monegasques tremble until the end, since his goal in additional time was disallowed for offside (90 + 2).
