Summary: Crystal Palace - Arsenal 2:0 (Sport1)
Arsenal started last season with a 2:0 loss to Brentford.
Tonight (Friday), after an impressive acquisition campaign and equally impressive preparatory games raised the bar of expectations, the Gunners opened the 2022/23 season with a rather convincing 0:2 against Crystal Palace.
Mikel Arteta's team was much better, and who knows, maybe this is really going to be their season.
Oleksandr Zinchenko scored the first for Gabriel Martinelli (20), Bokayo Saka scored the second goal, when he sent a cross that Mark Gohi continued in, sealing Palace's fate with an own goal (85).
"The most important thing is to win the first game, build confidence and momentum, then we can talk about things that need to be improved," Mikel Arteta said.
"There are a few things like that, to be honest. The way we started the game and the first half - it was wonderful. We should have scored more goals."
Despite the result and the good ability, the manager confirmed that Arsenal - who spent more money than any other team in the summer window - will continue to try and get stronger: "We will try. We have some things planned and we are going to try. If we succeed it will be great, but right now we will work with the existing players" .

The man of the match was William Saliba, the 21-year-old stopper who was brought back in the summer after the loan seasons at Seth.
Etienne, Nice and Marseille, and was wonderful in defense.
"He really impressed me," engraved Gary Neville.
"He reminds me of a young version of Rio Ferdinand."
The brakeman himself said: "I waited a long time for this moment, I'm so happy to start with a victory. We knew it would be difficult, but we were strong throughout the game."
Arteta also praised Saliba: "He was tremendous tonight."
Saliva himself was emotional at the end and shared his feelings after his debut in the Premier League: "It was very good because we started the season with a win and a clean sheet. I waited a long time for my debut at Arsenal and we did it (we won) in my first game for the team. I'm happy. It's amazing to open the lineup at my first show in this amazing club. I'm happy and hungry for more."
