RB Leipzig and VfB Stuttgart drew 1-1 on the first day of the 2022/2023 Bundesliga season.
In Stuttgart, Leipzig attacker Christopher Nkunku scored first (8th minute), Naouirou Ahamada equalized for Stuttgart (32nd).
The visitors scored in the eighth minute.
Benjamin Henrichs played sharply to Dani Olmo in the penalty area, who sent a touch into Nkunku's run.
The Frenchman pulled straight away and hit the far corner (8th).
Leipzig was clearly superior in this initial phase.
The early pressing left little room for the Stuttgarters in their own half, and they rarely got beyond the center line.
Florian Müller holds Stuttgart's point
Only after half an hour did Leipzig form more passively and try to defend in their own half.
That went awry when Ahamada played a quick one-two with Saša Kalajdžić on the edge of the area and fired it in directly on the inside right.
The ball landed flat next to the right post in the goal, unstoppable for RB keeper Péter Gulácsi (32nd).
The second half only picked up speed towards the end of the game.
As in the initial phase, the Leipzigers built up strong pressure.
Nkunku failed twice in a row (66th and 68th) to VfB goalkeeper Florian Müller, who became the deciding man.
The 24-year-old accomplished his greatest feat in the 72nd minute when he superbly saved a Willi Orbán header.
