National coach Voss-Tecklenburg: Equal bonuses for women and men

2022-08-07T10:13:28.789Z

The German national players would have received 60,000 euros for the European Championship title from the DFB, while the men would have received 400,000 euros. National coach Martin Voss-Tecklenburg advocates an adjustment as a "clear signal".

National football coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg advocates the same title bonuses for women's and men's national teams. »In principle, there is nothing to be said against it.

I would wish that it might also be the idea in the DFB to pay out the same for the three top teams for the title," said the 54-year-old on Saturday evening in the ZDF program "The current sports studio" when asked which speaks against equal pay.

This would be »a clear signal«.

The three top teams of the DFB mean the women's and men's senior national teams as well as the men's U21 selection.

However, Voss-Tecklenburg said that she was by no means demanding that women's premiums be raised to the level of men, but "a little less for men and a little more for women.

I still think that's overkill."

17.9 million people watch the EM final on ARD

Your team lost the European Championship final in London last Sunday to hosts England 2-1 after extra time.

An average of 17.9 million people watched the game on ARD.

For the title, the women of the German Football Association (DFB) would have received 60,000 euros per player from the association, the DFB men had negotiated a title bonus of 400,000 euros for the EM 2021 (out in the round of 16).

So far, Voss-Tecklenburg had mostly shown restraint on the subject of equal pay.

On ZDF, too, she initially formulated three other wishes as to what had to change in women's football:

  • Basic salaries in the women's Bundesliga so that the players "no longer have to work part-time".

According to Voss-Tecklenburg, the rate is currently around 50 percent.

  • "Equality of talent" between the sexes, i.e. equal access for girls and boys to the youth academies

  • Primetime kick-off times

  • Only when the moderator Katrin Müller-Hohenstein asked the question did Voss-Tecklenburg talk about equal bonuses (here in the video from the 5th minute).

On the fringes of the European Championship final, Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) announced an upcoming meeting with DFB director Oliver Bierhoff, which would also deal with the issue of equal pay.

The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday in Frankfurt/Main.

Scholz also announced that he would meet with the vice European champions.

A date has not yet been set, said the national coach on Saturday.

But she "actually has the feeling that it's not just lip service and symbolic politics," says Voss-Tecklenburg, who spoke of an order for "the entire sport".

    Politicians must be “more involved”.

It is great that there is the first meeting.

'Then we have to make something of it.

Don't just talk, but also follow through with action," says Voss-Tecklenburg,
