After 20 men's seasons, the EHC captain has decided to hang up his skates for 41 years.

Grafing – After the decision of striker Gennaro Hördt, who recently announced the end of his career as the longest-serving player after 13 years in the first team, EHC Klostersee has to cope with another painful departure.

The longtime captain Bernd Rische will also hang up his skates, as the ice hockey club from Grafing has now announced.

The recently 41-year-old record player for the EHCler retires after 713 competitive games and exactly 300 scorer points (98 goals and 208 assists) in the red and white jersey, but will remain with the club in another function.

"Bernd will be included in the coaching staff, we will define his exact area of responsibility yet," says coach Dominik Quinlan, who is happy to continue to be supported by his extended arm on the ice.

Rische was a club legend and an "incredible" captain.

“Bernd was always a calming influence and a leader at the same time, a real authority, always with a feel for the situation on the ice and in the dressing room.

Being able to build on exactly this wealth of first-hand experience is an added value, especially for the young players and his successor as captain,” says the head coach from Klosterseer, pleased that the “Capitano” will continue to be very closely linked to his squad.

That cushions the gap somewhat, which opens up in sporting and human terms due to Risches resignation.

As far as the end of his playing career is concerned, the defender had stated a long time ago that he would ideally like to be able to decide when he would like to do it himself without feeling that he was no longer needed or even because of an injury.

On vacation in Iceland recently, he had a lot of time to think and really calm down.

The decision was probably made to resign on the ice, but to continue to get involved at EHC Klostersee.

“35 years of EHC just don't go by without a trace.

The ice stadium is practically like a second living room, a close social environment and also familiarity," explained the defender, who had already revealed with a wink: "I just need the familiar smell of the dressing room." A good four years ago, Rische, the since 1998 (since some of his team-mates weren't even born yet) with a short break (2012 to 2015 he was on the ice for the Erding Gladiators) wore the EHC jersey for a total of 20 seasons, Raymund Nickel (630 appearances) as a Klosterseer record player superseded.
