Thomas Müller is known for causing a laugh from time to time in interviews.
At the start of the season against Frankfurt, he even managed to do this on the pitch.
Munich - The opening game between Eintracht Frankfurt and FC Bayern Munich quickly lacked excitement - but it wasn't lacking in highlights.
After just eleven minutes, the fate of Eintracht seemed decided that evening.
Rascal Joshua Kimmich surprised the Eagles with a clever free kick for an early lead in the fifth minute of the game.
A few minutes later, Benjamin Pavard took advantage of the disorder in the Frankfurt penalty area and slammed the ball into the net to make it 2-0.
From then on, the German record champions rolled over the Hessians like a steamroller - in the end the 6:1 for the Bavarians was well deserved.
An exclamation mark with an announcement - after all, Thomas Müller declared before the official start of the Bundesliga that Bayern want to set the tone in the coming season as well.
Müller delivers the game day's slapstick insert
The Eintracht supporters had little to laugh about throughout the game.
In the 24th minute, one or the other fan was overcome by a little glee after a missed opportunity by Müller.
It was definitely the slapstick insert of the first day of the game - you might see the scene again in the season review at the end of May.
What happened?
Even with a comfortable two-goal lead behind them, the Munich team continued to storm the Frankfurt goal, including in the 24th minute.
A through ball from the new superstar in Bayern's squad, Sadio Mané, overplayed Eintracht's entire line of defence.
Serge Gnabry with the ball at his feet and Thomas Müller run alone towards the goal of Adler keeper Kevin Trapp.
Then came what had to happen.
Müller on Gnabry: "He had a lot of time to think"
Gnabry sends a poorly timed cross pass to Müller, who is already stumbling, who directs the ball to the post from a short distance as it falls.
The hurrying Frankfurt Filip Kostic was probably able to irritate Müller at the last second.
The ball bounces off the post and hits Müller, who is already lying, in the head and rolls out of the goal.
Kick off Frankfurt.
Within a few seconds, the mega chance to make it 3-0 becomes a joke.
After the end of the game, however, Müller, who was last seen in a rap video with Gnabry, was able to smile about the insert in the 24th minute.
"I saw it coming, Serge's ball was a bit short and that's how it happened.
He had a lot of time to think.
And then I had to wait for the ball," he said on
Sat.1.
"Well, it will certainly be circulating on the internet," he added with a smile.
And Müller wasn't entirely wrong about that.
On Twitter, the miserably missed goal attempt was somewhat exaggeratedly dubbed the "non-goal of the decade", while an English journalist wrote of the "miss of the season".
