Between April 24, 1979 and October 9, 1985, the Sendling-born football official was President of Bavaria.

During this time, today's Bundesliga giants won the German Championship and the DFB Cup twice each.

In addition, the Munich team reached the final in the European Cup against Aston Villa in 1982.

In a statement from the club, Uli Hoeneß mourns the loss of his former companion: "In Willi O. Hoffmann we are losing a person who always carried FC Bayern in his heart.

He always approached all tasks positively and with his optimism made an important contribution to the development of FC Bayern.”

Hoffmann was known for celebrating Munich's victories particularly extensively and was therefore given the nickname "Champagne-Willi" by the media from the Isar metropolis.

The Bavarians write in their obituary: "His nickname 'Champagne-Willi' became legendary."
