She has just won her first match in over a year, and made a failed return to Wimbledon at the end of June.
At 40, Serena Williams is reaching the twilight of her career, and will soon be stepping away from the field.
Present on the front page of the future September issue of Vogue magazine, the American took the opportunity to talk about her future.
“There comes a time in life when you have to decide to take a different direction.
This moment is always difficult when you love something so much.
My God I love tennis.
But now the count has begun.
I need to focus on being a mother, my spiritual goals, and finding a different, but equally exciting, Serena.
I will savor these last few weeks, ”she wrote on her Instagram account.

The American does not give a precise date for her last tournament, but the US Open, which will take place from August 29 to September 11, could well host her final match, in front of an audience committed to her cause.
“I don't know if I would be ready to win in New York.
But I'm going to try, and the tournaments before that are going to be fun,” she told Vogue.
“I will miss you” she tells her fans
"I'm not looking for some kind of ceremony, a last moment on the pitch.
I'm terrible at goodbyes, the worst in the world.
But please know that I am more grateful than I could ever express in words.
You have brought me to so many victories and trophies.
I will miss this version of me, this girl who played tennis.
And I will miss you, ”concluded Serena Williams, addressing her fans.
Until his departure, the American icon will already play in the second round of the WTA 1000 in Toronto this Wednesday, against Belinda Bencic or Tereza Martincova.
