Willi O. Hoffmann, ex-president of FC Bayern Munich, is dead. The German record champions announced this on Tuesday.

Munich – FC Bayern Munich mourns the loss of its former president Willi O. Hoffmann.

As the German Bundesliga record champions announced, the native of Munich died on Tuesday (9 August) in the Bavarian capital.

Hoffman was 92 years old.

Willi O. Hoffmann died: FC Bayern mourns the ex-president

Between April 24, 1979 and October 9, 1985, the Sendling-born football official was President of Bavaria.

During this time he won the German Championship and the DFB Cup twice with today's Bundesliga giants.

He also reached the European Cup final with Munich in 1982 against Aston Villa (0-1).

In a statement from the club, Uli Hoeneß mourns the loss of his former companion: "In Willi O. Hoffmann we are losing a person who always carried FC Bayern in his heart.

He always approached all tasks positively and made an important contribution to the development of FC Bayern with his optimism.” had to end his career due to a persistent knee injury.

Willi O. Hoffmann died: President of FC Bayern became known as "Champagne-Willi".

Hoffmann was known for celebrating Munich's victories particularly extensively and was therefore given the nickname "Champagne-Willi" by the media from the Isar metropolis.
