The European Championships are the big Munich event of the year.
In our daily column we give unique insights.
Munich - "Gfreidi, Munich" - that's the name of this regular column on the European Championships.
"Gfreidi" (be happy) is the name of the mascot, a squirrel - the Bavarian part. However, the entire event should also have international appeal, which is why, according to the organizers, it is not taking place in Munich, but in Munich.
Well then, if that's the case, then we can brag about our international Olympic experience.
The author was a reporter from the 2000 games in Sydney (a well-preserved, if not optimally ironed polo shirt shows this), 2004 in Athens (t-shirt with pictograms – which is also a nice bridge to Otl Aicher's Munich '72) and 2008 in Beijing.
At that time he bought a Chinese team jacket in a shop owned by Li Ning, the former gymnastics star.
It really looks a bit old-fashioned - also: China?
Didn't go well, which is why the jacket is no longer used (like the Ice Hockey Champion Bars Kazan T-shirt, a souvenir from the World Cup in Russia).
What is still being searched for in the depths of the closet: slouch hat from Sydney 2000. Outstanding sun protection.
Munich would be amazed.
