According to media reports, the upcoming World Cup is set to start a day earlier than planned so that hosts Qatar can host the opening game.
This was reported by the British sports portal "The Athletic".
Berlin - Accordingly, the world association FIFA is planning to start the finals on November 20 in the evening with the game between Qatar and Ecuador.
So far, the game between Senegal and the Netherlands on November 21 is scheduled as the first game.
The decision still has to be approved by the Executive Committee of the FIFA Council, wrote The Athletic.
However, approval is expected.
The World Championship would then be held from November 20th through the finals day on December 18th.
The AP news agency also reported on corresponding considerations.
The hosts have played the opening game at World Cups since 2006, before that the defending champions had usually played first.
