Champions League winners Real Madrid have won the European Super Cup.

The Spanish soccer record champions defeated Europa League winner Eintracht Frankfurt in Helsinki 2-0 (1-0).

The goals were scored by David Alaba after a corner (38th minute) and attacker Karim Benzema (65th).

At the beginning, Frankfurt was the better team.

Oliver Glasner's team seemed to have digested the 6-1 defeat at the start of the Bundesliga against FC Bayern and almost took the lead in the 14th minute.

After Ansgar Knauff won the ball in midfield and a through ball from Rafael Borré, Daichi Kamada appeared free in front of the Real goal but shot keeper Thibaut Courtois.

Tuta makes a spectacular save

Shortly thereafter, the Spaniards had a great opportunity to take the lead.

After a combination worth seeing, Vinicius Junior came to an end in the penalty area, Eintracht keeper Kevin Trapp was already beaten on the ground before defender Tuta cleared the goal with a tackle just before the line (17th).

After that, the Spaniards had more possession, but Frankfurt continued to play courageously.

More than one shot by Knauff from an acute angle, which Courtois was able to easily fend off, did not succeed (24th).

Alaba puts Real in the lead

The Spanish champions punished that.

First Vinicius Junior, who couldn't be controlled by Frankfurt, had the chance to take the lead, and Frankfurt's keeper Kevin Trapp was just able to fend off his shot to the corner.

But Real used this standard.

Toni Kroos' ball found its way to David Alaba, who took advantage of the disorder in Frankfurt's defense and made it 1-0 from close range (38').

As a result, Real took control more and more - and could have extended the lead.

Again it was Vinicius Junior, who aimed at Trapp's goal after a cross, but failed again at the hitherto strong Frankfurt keeper (55th).

A little later, the crossbar saved after a shot by Casemiro (61st).

In the 65th minute, however, Frankfurt's luck was exhausted.

After presentation by Vinicius Junior, Benzema completed from around 14 meters.

Trapp cut an unfortunate figure when the shot was not very well placed.

In the end, Real Madrid played with all their experience, while at Frankfurt even substitute Mario Götze couldn't bend anything.
