Auxerre and football, the rekindled flame


DECRYPTION – After a decade in Ligue 2, the legendary AJA club, under the Chinese flag since 2016, has returned to the elite. And arouses unprecedented popular enthusiasm in a city that is coming back to life.

Even the stewards, overwhelmed, sketched a smile in this joyous mess.

On May 20, Auxerre qualified for the Ligue 1 play-off (0-0, 5-4 on penalties against Sochaux), which they won a few days later against Saint-Étienne.

Scenes of jubilation and invasion of the lawn that Lucien Denis, former defender of AJA (1976-1983) converted into the media, will not soon forget.
