FC Bayern did not find a loud successor to David Alaba in the first year.
The Austrian himself trusts Matthijs de Ligt with this role.
Munich – How important David Alaba was for FC Bayern was particularly evident after his move to Real Madrid.
The motto of Julian Nagelsmann's first season in Munich was "Ooty in front, ugh in the back".
Because the Bayern defense was not playing at the top European level, the record champions reacted in the summer and signed Matthijs de Ligt from Juventus Turin.
Often denounced: There is no defense chief who gives clear commands.
Nagelsmann himself admitted that the three Frenchmen Dayot Upamecano, Benjamin Pavard and Lucas Hernandez are not great communicators.
With de Ligt, just such a type of player was brought in.
Is he the missing piece of the puzzle?
Alaba praises Bayern newcomer de Ligt
The expectations of the Dutchman are high, after all he cost almost 70 million euros.
In the first two competitive games, he only played 20 minutes (eight against Frankfurt, twelve against Leipzig) due to insufficient fitness.
There are also critical voices, after all, de Ligt was not completely convincing at Juve.
David Alaba evaluates the transfer positively.

"Matthijs de Ligt definitely has what it takes to become a leading player at Bayern," the Austrian told

.
His opinion matters - after all, Alaba, as the ex-defense chief, knows best what a player at FC Bayern has to bring with him in this role.
Alaba on de Ligt: "Has the nature to lead a team"
"Especially during his time at Ajax Amsterdam, he showed that he has many qualities and can lead.
He has the nature to lead a team," Alaba continued.
In the first two competitive games of the season, the Bayern defense presented itself quite appealing, Nagelsmann actually has no need to change his defensive line at the moment.

But nobody seriously doubts that de Ligt will get his start-up appearances.
It was simply too expensive for that.
Bayern's latest transfer, on the other hand, wasn't expensive at all - a South Korean top talent is coming to Säbener Straße.
