Summary of Real Madrid's 0:2 victory over Juventus in a preparatory match in California (Sport1)
UEFA published today (Friday) the names of the three finalists for the title of the best player for the 2021/22 season, and as expected, Real Madrid stars. The new European champions send two representatives to the list - the great favorite Karim Benzema and goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois. The final trio is completed Kevin de Brauna, the player of the year in England who led Manchester City to a fourth championship in five years.
Benzema, who also led Real Madrid to win the Super Cup this week and rose to second place in the club's top scorer table, was named the best player of the season in the Champions League and in light of the fact that he also led the Blancos For the Spanish championship, he is considered the leading candidate. Courtois is included in the list thanks to several great displays during the season, the first of which is the performance against Liverpool in the final in which he was crowned man of the match. Courtois's Belgian teammate, De Brauna, is probably the least likely of the three to win the title. The award will be shared on August 25 during the Champions League group stage draw.
UEFA also published the players who reached places 4 to 15 in the ranking in the following order: Robert Lewandowski, Luka Modric, Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Junior, Virgil van Dijk, Bernardo Silva, Filip Kostic, Lorenzo Pellegrini, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Fabinho. Despite losing in the final, Liverpool have five representatives in the top 15 compared to Real's four, if you include Sadio Mane who played in the media last season and moved to Bayern Munich in the summer. Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are off the list, as is the year's title winner Past - Jorginho.
The list of candidates for this season's coach includes Carlo Ancelotti, European and Spanish champion with Real Madrid, alongside the two coaches who fought until the final round for the Premier League championship - the champion Pep Guardiola from Manchester City and his deputy Jurgen Klopp from Liverpool.
