The second day of the European Swimming Championships in Rome started this morning (Friday), with the participation of no less than 12 Israelis.
The 4x100 meter mixed medley relay team, which includes Aviv Barzli, Chris Picchugin, Ron Polonsky and Anastasia Gorbenko, managed to make it through the last eight to advance to the finals, after setting a 3:50.67 minutes - six seconds short of the Israeli record achieved at the Tokyo Olympics.
David Gerchik advanced to the semi-finals in the 200 meter backstroke from tenth place, after setting a time of 1:59.13 seconds.
Inbar Danziger also participated in the same race and finished with 2:03.48 minutes and was ranked 25th, and Adam Marana finished 28th after 2:08.88 minutes.

Three swimmers participated in the prestigious 100-meter freestyle, when first among the Israelis, Denis Loktev came with 49.95 seconds, which was enough for him to place 35th, Martin Kartaby achieved 50.35 seconds and was ranked 46th, and Daniel Namir, who celebrates his 25th birthday today, came next, with 50.42 seconds.
By the way, already in the qualifiers, the Romanian David Popovic set a new championship record of 47.20 seconds, and maybe in the final we will see a new world record, which is still held by Cesar Silo with 46.91 seconds - set in the same pool in Rome at the World Championship in 2009.
