Summary: Aris Thessaloniki - Maccabi Tel Aviv 1:2 (Sport1)
Maccabi Tel Aviv dreams of surprising Nice in the playoffs to advance to the group stage of the Conference League, and it is possible that it will receive unexpected assistance, at least in the first game in Bloomfield: the French team's squad includes no less than seven Algerian players, who will have to decide whether they join the trip to Israel or avoid it political reasons.
In recent years, more and more Algerian athletes boycott Israel.
The case of Fathi Norin, who withdrew from the Tokyo Olympics in order not to meet Toher Botbol, is especially memorable.
Norin received a heavy punishment and was removed by the World Judo Association for ten years, in a case that was well publicized in the Arab world.
Noreen is of course not the only one.
Just three weeks ago, the Algerian defender Ahmed Tova refused to come to Israel with Bashakshir for a match against Maccabi Netanya.

It remains to be seen whether Nice's Algerians will behave similarly for the first leg at Bloomfield on Thursday, but if all or part of them miss the game, it could make things difficult for the French.
Two of the Algerians who play in the team are also the outstanding scorers of the team last season: Andy Delor (who also plays for the Algerian national team regularly) who scored 18 goals in all competitions last season, and Amin Guairi who scored 12.
Substitute striker Bilal Brahimi is another player who gets minutes in the team And she may be missing in Tel Aviv, as is midfielder Hisham Budawi.
Third goalkeeper Teddy Hollande, right back Youssef Attal and 17-year-old attacking midfielder Derderin Boanani are less significant, but their absence could harm the depth advantage that coach Lucien Fabre should have.
Either way, it is still too early to know which squad Nice will field for the game in Israel considering the fact that three days after that they will be hosted by Clermont in the French league, which is a top priority for them.
