The reigning world champion in the javelin throw, Anderson Peters, was brutally beaten this week and even thrown into the water from a ship in his homeland, Grenada.
The circumstances of the incident are still being investigated, but the details that have been revealed are that Peters was beaten by five people from Trinidad and Tobago during a party held on a ship, and after they finished attacking him, they threw him into the water.
Peters was taken to the hospital with injuries to his face, elbow and neck, but the main health concern comes from his left ankle.
It is still unclear whether he will be able to participate in the Diamond League competition in two weeks in Switzerland.
Six people were arrested, taken to the police station and charged with assault, including a police officer who was on the ship.
"I have no words to express my regret, disappointment and shock at this incident," said Caribbean Olympic Committee President Brian Lewis.

Peters, 24, won the World Athletics Championships twice - the first was in 2019, and the second just a few weeks ago in Eugene.
He is considered one of the favorites to reach the podium in Paris 2024 as well.
