Brazilian Beatrice Haddad Maya qualified for the Toronto Tennis Championships final today, at the expense of Czech Karolina Pliskova.
The world number 24 defeated 14th seed Pliskova 6-4 7-6 in two hours and two minutes to become the first Brazilian to reach the final of a 1,000-point tournament.
Maya will face Romania's 16th-ranked Simona Halep, twice winner of the Toronto title in 2016 and 2018, who in turn defeated American Jessica Pegula, ranked seventh in the world, by two sets to one, 6-2, 6-3, 6-4.
Maya and Halep had previously faced three matches, with the Romanian having settled two in her favour.
