David Schumacher is currently driving in the DTM; according to his own statement, he missed the leap into Formula 2 for financial reasons.
The 20-year-old has now sharply criticized the junior series for the high barriers to entry.
Bergheim – In the past, the brothers Michael and Ralf Schumacher caused a sensation in Formula 1.
In particular, record world champion Michael is still a celebrated motorsport icon today, his son Mick has been chasing points in the premier class since last year.
David Schumacher, son of Ralf and his ex-wife Cora, would also like to experience this.
The DTM driver wants to drive in Formula 1 in the future, but criticized the high hurdles that young drivers have to overcome to get into the elite series.

David Schumacher criticizes junior series: two million euros for a starting place in Formula 2
The 20-year-old David Schumacher recently confirmed his career
plan in a conversation with the portal
motorsport-total.com .
"My goal is still to get into Formula 1 one day," said Ralf Schumacher's son.
“The only question is how to get there.
This is not possible without Formula 2 and Formula 3.
But you need sponsors for that,” he noted.
You currently have to pay more than two million euros to get into the junior series if you can't offer the sponsors an equivalent value.

In addition to the financial barriers to entry, the native of Salzburg also criticizes the marketing of the young series.
"The FIA Formula 2 and FIA Formula 3 are doing a really bad job there," said Schumacher.
There is “almost no sponsor interest” in the championships, in which participants need so much money.
David Schumacher: He didn't make the leap into Formula 2 - "It was just too expensive"
David Schumacher has already had a lot of experience in the relevant series.
After starting his career in karting, he drove for the first time in 2017/18 in the Formula 4 of the United Arab Emirates and the German Formula 4. After his fourth place in the Formula Regional European Championship in 2019, there followed two years in the FIA Formula 3, in which he once 28th and once 11th.
However, unlike his cousin Mick, he did not make the leap into Formula 2.
"After Formula 3, my plan was to go to Formula 2.
Then we looked for sponsors, but couldn't find any," says Schumacher.
"Respectively, we found a few, but that wasn't enough to cover the entire season.
It was simply too expensive,” he corrects the statement.

Since this year he has competed in the German Touring Car Masters, but the production-based competition vehicles differ significantly from those in Formula 1 - mainly because the DTM cars hardly generate any aerodynamic downforce.
That's why Schumacher is "not sure if the car will help me learn something for single-seater racing".
After all, he is still part of the Mercedes junior program, so his dream of Formula 1 is still alive. (ajr)
