Israeli swimmers Michael Leitrovski and David Gerchik qualified today (Sunday) for the semifinals of the European Swimming Championships in Rome, Italy.

Both did it in the 50-meter backstroke, with Leitrovsky being the fastest among them and moving up from eighth place in the calculation of two swimmers for the country, with a time of 25.05 seconds.

For Gerczyk, the path was a little more complex.

The 21-year-old Israeli finished 16th in the qualifiers with a time of 25.49 seconds, jointly with Britain's Jonathan Adam, which led to a head-to-head (decisive massage) to decide the identity of the semi-finalist.

Head-to-head, Garchik showed clear superiority and won with an impressive personal record of 25.11 seconds, so he will also swim tonight in the semi-finals, which will be held at 19:30 Israel time.

Also in the 50 backstroke, Inbar Danziger clocked 25.65 seconds and finished in 22nd place, Adam Maraena with 26.09 seconds and 34th place. In the 200 freestyle, Denis Loktev clocked 1:48.93 minutes and finished in 22nd place, Bar Soloveitchik finished 27th with 1:50.15 minutes, Eitan Ben Shatrit set a personal record of 1:50.63 minutes and finished 30th. In the 100 butterfly Leah Polonsky recorded 1:02.06 minutes and finished in 29th place.

To finish, the Israeli relay quartet jumped to the 4x100 meter freestyle.

Denis Loktev, Ron Polonsky, Miron Haruti and Martin Kartabi set 3:18.23 minutes and finished in 13th place.

The intermediate times of the quartet: Loktev opened with 49.97 seconds, Polonsky 49.08 seconds, Haruti 49.22 seconds and Kartabi 49.96 seconds.
